I was reading about David Lean the other day and heard of this film with Rossano Brazzi and Katherine Hepburn. I would have thought that such a combination of acting and direction would have created a good film - but it's not available. Does anyone know why not?

Hi Dominic,
Trust you to come up with an interesting question. Summer Time ( or Summer Madness as it was called in the U.K. ) was David Lean's first international film. It was a job he took when his fortunes were rather low - and he did it for the money. Although it turned out to be a pretty good film, he was still looking for something to boost his finances and he found it in the next job that came along "Bridge on The River Kwai." From then on, it was big budgets all the way.
Why has it not been released on video ? Well, actually it has. In the USA it was released in all formats - VHS, Laserdisc and DVD.
Lean's output was never very large - he directed only 15 films in 42 years but every one in its own way is worth seeing.
