With so few Westerns being made these days, is there any chance of some of the lesser-seen films of John Wayne, Gary Cooper and Randolph Scott getting the Laureate DVD treatment?

I agree with Mr. Penderton that it's time that some of the great Westerns were on DVD. Most of the better known John Waynes are available from the States - and some of them are readily available over here. But what I'd like to see is that wonderful series of Westerns that James Stewart made with Anthony Mann. Columbia have done "The Man From Laramie" but when are Universal going to give us "Winchester'73," "Bend of the River" and "The Far Country ?" And MGM have totally ignored "The Naked Spur."

Is there any chance of these films getting the Laureate treatment?

In reply to the many requests we've had for Westerns, I will look into the possibilites. I certainly like the idea of the James Stewart-Anthony Mann movies.

Back in 1987, I had the pleasure of talking with Mr. Stewart about his movies and he named the five Westerns he had done with director Mann as being amongst his own personal favourites. He thought they had worn very well because of the scripts, the locations and the solid direction.

As the DVD player population increases, there should be a growing market for Westerns but it may take another year or two. However, as I said, I will look into it.

Thanks for the interest
