I recently purchased the new Universal Mae West boxed set, containing six of her best movies.
I would just like to congratulate Universal on the quality of the prints used in this set and the marvellous packaging and presentation.
Each of the six movies is presented in a seemingly pristine print and with good audio quality. If only Universal had invested in a few 'Extras' the set would be perfect.
I give a good 8/10 for this boxed set. Highly recommended!

Yes, Universal's Mae West box set is a good quality collection. One of Universal's good points is that they try to deliver quality prints. Their weakness - and this applies to the USA as much as it does to the UK - is that they are not sympathetic to the needs of movie buffs and ardent collectors. If they would take the trouble to rectify this weakness and follow Warner's lead, they could become as successful as Warners. As it stands, they are trailing behind other majors such as Fox and Sony who have a far larger slice of the international DVD market. They have the means to change this, but seem reluctant to do so. Go figure ! |

If a company like Optimum can release a marvellous 14-title box set of the Basil Rathbone-Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes films complete with extras, why can't Universal do the same with their box sets ? The answer must be that they just don't care. |
