Hi Mark,
Happy New Year and welcome to 2004. As far as I'm aware, the BBC never go outside of their existing library when transmitting vintage films. A case in point is "Carefree" which was shown on BBC-2 a few weeks back. It was a very shabby-looking print and not in the same class as the one we have in the current box set.

Another case was "Citizen Kane." Universal offered our
fully restored version to the BBC in exchange for some documentary clips. They declined - and we had to pay for the clips. I don't think there is any one person to blame for this, it's just corporate policy. Sky, obviously, have a different policy.
