Congratulations to Ken Barnes for once again giving the Laureate touch to some classic films. This must be the best ever presentation of the Astaire-Rogers films for home viewing. I caught "Carefree" on BBC TV a few weeks ago and was appaled at the poor quality. This new DVD version is a relevation. The Ava Astaire introductions are a delight.

Less delightful, however, are the clumsy programme notes on the back of the box. Whoever made the reference to "Change Partners" as a Gershwin composition and claiming that it came from "Shall We Dance" just wasn't paying attention to all the lovingly detailed information on the disc. It's obvious that Mr. Barnes wasn't responsible for this. But what a shame that it has to happen on such an otherwise excellent release.

This apart, I have nothing but praise for the presentation and those gorgeously designed Moving Menus and Chapters.

Keep up the good work.

J.P.
