Years ago I've read or heard somewhere that originally there was another dream sequence in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY in which Danny was a resistance fighter for the IRA in Dublin. I do not know if this was just an unused part in the original script or actually filmed and later deleted from the final picture. I just know that it was dropped or cut on purpose to avoid any offense of British audiences (e.g. the German 1952 theatrical version starts out when Danny enters the casino and omits the scene when he shoots a German pilot and marks his success with a "Hakenkreuz"-button on his plane).

I've always tried to get further information but never found any more hints about what's really all about this Dublin sequence. Does anybody know more or where I might get further information ?

Thanks for all your kind help !

Best, Christoph

Hi Christoph,

Interesting point about "Walter Mitty." I can't say I've ever heard of such a sequence being shot. The Sam Goldwyn films are now part of the HBO catalogue and I believe Columbia have the video rights here in Europe. I don't know if they intend to do anything about releases. Certainly they've done nothing so far.

I have some contacts in Columbia and I'll see what I can find out about possible future releases ( "Wonder Man" would make a good DVD ).

Regards

Hello Ken,

Thanks for your reply. If I only could remember where that information came from. This is very long ago and I never came across that information again. May be it is not true.

Do you know in the meantime if Universal has the old German versions of the Bob Hope/Road-to-films ?

Kind regards,

Christoph

Hi Christoph,

We won't be getting into Bob Hope's films until next year. But I've made a note of your request and I'll certainly introduce it at the production meeting.

Hi Ken,

So this will mean that the Road-To-Collection will not be released on 03/11/2003 as announced so far ? At least of ROAD TO UTOPIA I suppose Universal to have the German 1951 nitrate negative.

Best,

Christoph

Christof,

The Road to..collection WILL be released in November. But we were not given any information about dubbed versions.

We produced from digi betas that were formatted in Los Angeles. The DVDs will be rendered in PAL Region 2 and Region 4 ( U.K. and Australia respectively ). My comments about dubbed versions referred to a possible forthcoming Bob Hope collection which has not yet been scheduled or discussed.

Just for the record - the boxed sets scheduled for November release are Fred and Ginger - Cary Grant - The Marx Brothers
and the Road to...

Thanks for your continuing interest.

Best
Ken
