The Sinatra films in the three box-sets which are about to be issued are available individually. The USA on-line vendor DVD Pacific has them at a very reasonable price. The DVDs are of course Region 1, so buyers with Region 2 only machines should be wary. _________________ I've met plenty of hard-boiled eggs in my life, but you, you're twenty minutes! |

Hi Joel,
Thanks for the info on "Sergeants Three" and the other Sinatra DVDs.
Of equal interest to F.S. fans will be the release this month of a
CD compilation called "Nothing But The Best." While all the tracks - except one - will be familiar to F.S. collectors, the digital remastering offers an outstanding quality of sound. The one "new" track is an interesting version of "Body and Soul." The vocal comes from a 1984 session but the excellent strung arrangement by Torrie Zito was recently recorded last October. The result is a genuine collector's item.
In the U.S. "Nothing But The Best" is issued as a single 22-track CD.
In the U.K. it is released in tandem with a DVD of "Sinatra at the Royal Festival Hall"
Enjoy |

The performance of Frank Sinatra at The Royal Festival Hall that I would love to have on DVD is from his 1962 world tour in support of children's charities. It was televised at the time and, it seems, recorded onto film. More than once in the past, the National Film Theatre has screened this recording so presumably the materials are there for a DVD.
Will any imaginative, enterprising DVD producer take the initiative? _________________ I've met plenty of hard-boiled eggs in my life, but you, you're twenty minutes! |

The RFH concert DVD is available from Amazon. This is the 1970 concert with Grace Kelly. However some have said it is not one of Sinatra's best perfomances. |

Is there a DVD of Sinatra's 1962 performance at the Royal Festival Hall? That's the one I want. _________________ I've met plenty of hard-boiled eggs in my life, but you, you're twenty minutes! |

Many thanks for the link. I take it for granted that everyone reading that post will understand why the 1962 performance at the Royal Festival Hall is the one I want on DVD.
It is of course enormously regrettable that the print is in such poor condition. I know nothing about film restoration so I cannot comment on whether it is feasible to make a viable DVD from that print. I suspect however that because Sinatra's voice in 1962 was in much better shape than it was a few years later when he made several TV shows, there would be considerable interest in a high quality DVD of that 1962 performance. _________________ I've met plenty of hard-boiled eggs in my life, but you, you're twenty minutes! |

Re[It is of course enormously regrettable that the print is in such poor condition]
Sadly this is the case for much of the UK's archive material, much of which has been lost completely through neglect or total indifference in the late sixties and seventies .
Whilst it is possible to carry out high grade digital restoration. If essential information is missing from a sound track or picture, it is not possible to recreate this, hence the drop out and break up on the BFI's print. I'm sure the experts from the BFI's restoration unit at Berkhamsted had carried out extensive work on this material to achieve the best print possible. The only hope is that there is a another print of this film somewhere else in the world that can be used to restore the missing information. |
