I've just bought the 2-in-1 Rosemary Clooney CD The Reprise Years.
The final track is called Thanks For Nothing, and the booklet credits the song to Cole Porter. I had never heard this song before, and it doesn't sound at all like Cole Porter to me. I looked it up in two books about Cole Porter and in three books which list songs written for the theatre and/or movies. Not one mentions this song at all.
Either the booklet is wrong and the song was written by someone else, in which case by whom, or we have an undiscovered Cole Porter song. Can anyone throw any light on the subject? _________________ I've met plenty of hard-boiled eggs in my life, but you, you're twenty minutes! |

I have searched through three books on Cole Porter and could not find "Thanks For Nothing." Of course, this could be a recently discovered Porter copyright, so I searched the ASCAP files ( which contains EVERY Ascap copyright - and ALL of Porter's work was ASCAP registered ) and the song is not mentioned in any form. Thus, the likelihood of this being a Porter song is too remote to be considered.
Record companies are frequently wrong in their composer credits and this would seem to be the case here. |
