I'm really looking forward to the proposed boxed set of Warner Brothers musicals, which i'm assuming will be mostly all Busby Berkeley films.
Would anyone know more details of release date and titles in the set?
I'm certainly hoping that 'Footlight Parade' and 'Golddiggers of 1933' will be included.

Hi Mark,
When I was in Los Angeles in September, I had lunch with George Feltenstein of Warner Home Entertainment and he told me that they were working on a box of "the Busby Berkeley musicals" -so this will surely contain the "Gold Diggers" musicals 1933 and 1935 and "Footlight Parade" not to mention "42nd Street," " Dames" and all the others.
I think Warners are way out in front of all the other companies as far as DVD collectors are concerned. But Fox are trailing them - not in box sets but in individual releases like their "Film Noir" series and now the new series " Marquee Musicals" of which "Daddy Long Legs" is among the first batch next month. |

Thanks Rego for pointing this out. The set also includes a number of fine extras including the former laser feature "The Busby Berkeley Disc" featuring musical highlights from all of the famous Berkeley musicals - which is an entertainment in itself.
Highly recommended. |

Hi Rego.
I thought you'd like it. Warners are really the top people these days in producing box sets. I tried to do the same for Universal, but the people I worked with were not really into movies - and I wasn't about to work for nothing. |

My immediate reaction to Universals attitude in recent years is, what a missed opportunity !
There is a whole up-and-coming generation that has a real thirst for dance and is certainly fascinated by the spectacular dance sequences of the great Hollywood musicals, and indeed some of the British films.
At a time when dance has never been more popular with programs such as Strictly Come Dancing, Strictly Dance Fever, etc. regularly topping the viewing ratings on television. It just goes to show how shortsighted Universal as company really is. |
