I've only just caught up on the messages posted in the last 3 weeks or so. I have most of Cary Grant's films which are available on DVD incl.
The Philadelphia Story (my personal favourite) plus both the Laureate and Criterion version of the wonderful "Charade" but what about Bringing
Up Baby? As for Frank Capra one of my favourites of his would be You Can't Take It with You and finally for the incomparable Mr Astaire I have
registered my views before for the RKO catalogue but in addition to the MGM musicals already mentioned I have always had a soft spot for Three Little Words. |

The above was in fact mentioned by me on 4th September. I love it too - but it's hard to come by. It's a sad loss to the catalogue.

Dear Jack,
Good to hear from you again. Since I am now working for Universal ( "Holiday Inn" will be issued on December 2 pre-ceded by an interesting CD of ALL the songs from both "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas" INCLUDING for the FIRST TIME EVER, Fred's recording of "Let's Say It With Firecrackers" ), I'll be putting forward your suggestions for the RKO material - "Bringing Up Baby" as well as the Fred and Gingers. So, fingers crossed, let's see what happens.
As for "You Can't Take It With You" this belongs to Columbia and they already have it out on a budget label with no extras. But since I'm in correspondence with Columbia, I'll find out what they think. Of course, they already have put out pretty good editions of "Mr. Smith.."
"It Happened One Night" and "Lost Horizon."
I think you'll be happy with "Holiday Inn." It's loaded with
extras and was a lot of fun to work on.
Cheers
Ken |
