I've been reading with interest of the development of the Laureate company. It's good to know that Universal are using
the services of Laureate and Ken Barnes. But what about other major companies like 20th Century Fox, Columbia, Warner Brothers and Paramount ?
Is there any chance of getting the two Glenn Miller films
"Sun Valley Serenade" and "Orchestra Wives" ? And what about the Betty Grable and Alice Faye musicals ?
Warners should release some of the Errol Flynn swashbucklers
and Columbia the two Jolson biography films "The Jolson Story" and " Jolson Sings Again."
And for more serious film buffs, where are the great films of Billy Wilder ? "The Lost Weekend" "Double Indemnity"
and "Sunset Boulevard" would make a good start.
All of the above would benefit from the Laureate DVD treatment.
Of course, I realise it's early days for the DVD but I'm sure that the potential is there if only the film companies can realise it.

Dear Jeremy Harrison,
Thanks you for your generous remarks re the Laureate company. Our website seems to be developing into a veritable forum for movie buffs.
Lovers of classic films seem to come in all ages. I've had e-mails and messages from a wide spectrum of age groups - from teenagers to senior citizens. And everyone pretty much agrees with the very same opinions and sentiments expressed in your message -Classics of all kinds.
I'm certainly doing my best to bring as many classics to the DVD market as I can but the companies that control the major catalgues are more interested in selling the very latest titles. However, don't despair. I think the people in these companies are becoming more aware of just how wide the potential of the DVD market is.
My current association with Universal looks like iut's going to lead to some interesting releases and I'll certainly be approaching Fox in the near future. So keep your eye on our News and Coming Soon sections.
Many thanks
Ken Barnes |

Dear Jeremy,
Further to my response of yesterday, I am now talking with 20th Century Fox in the hope of doing Fred Astaire in "Daddy Longlegs." If this works, we may be able to look at the Glenn Miller titles you mentioned.
Keep in touch
Best

Dear Ken Barnes,
If you so form a successful relationship with 20th Century Fox, what about doing DVDs of the Betty Grable-Dick Haymes musicals ?
"Diamond Horshoe" and "Carnival in Costa Rica" would, I'm sure, be appreciated by fans of 1940s musicals.
